Welcome Lorna Paviour, Five-Element Acupuncturist

Lorna first experienced the powerful benefits of five-element acupuncture when she approached Master Practitioner Gerad Kite for fertility help 25 years ago. After the birth of her two children, she continued as his patient, recognising that the treatment supports body, mind and spirit, and provides a deep sense of vitality and calm.

Inspired by her own experiences as a patient, she trained under Gerad Kite, affectionately known as “the Daddy of all Fertility Experts”, at his acupuncture school, Yellow Path, in London.

As a qualified practitioner, Lorna supports patients facing health challenges, and is especially interested in stress and anxiety, women’s health, pain, and sleep issues.

Lorna holds a Licentiate in Five-Element Acupuncture and is a member of the Association of Five Element Acupuncture (AFEA). She is a mentor at Yellow Path, and has a London practice at The Elements Studio in Shoreditch.

Five-element acupuncture is different from the widely used Traditional Chinese Medicine. TCM effectively works on specific symptoms, such as joint pain. Five-element acupuncture, by contrast, seeks out the root cause of the problem. In this way, five-element acupuncture alleviates the main symptom, and, in addition, provides an opportunity for the body to heal. It boosts health and wellbeing, and brings balance back to the body and the mind.

Treatment uses very fine, single-use, sterile, disposable needles. In some treatments, the needles are placed in the body for a short period of time, but in general, the ‘fast needling” technique is used. This involves the swift presentation of a single needle to acupuncture points specifically selected for each individual patient. These points lie on the “meridians” or channels of energy which run through the body. The needles can be used to boost or quieten the flow of energy as needed, and acupuncture points may be used across the whole body, not necessarily just in the area where symptoms are felt.

Before training as an acupuncturist, Lorna worked as a Dyslexia and Adult Literacy Specialist for over 30 years. She became increasingly drawn to healthcare and wellness while studying for her Masters in Education. Her dissertation focused on the links between learning to read in adulthood, confidence and wellbeing. Lorna brings this  experience and understanding of each person’s individual needs to her acupuncture practice, and is excited to be able to share this ancient system of medicine.
