Acupuncture is for young adults too! By Lorna Paviour

Acupuncture is for young adults too!

The transitions in early adult life are hugely exciting. Many young people are

delighted to have left school and exams behind them. A future of travel, work,

freedom and independence is thrilling.

These shifts from school to university, work or travel, and from graduation to a

regular job can also be daunting. The number of decisions to be made can feel

overwhelming, disappointments may need to be absorbed, and the path to adulthood

can be a slippery one.

Many young adults find the run-up to Results Day in August a particular time of

unwelcome anticipation, stress and even overwhelm.

So how can five-element acupuncture help ?

One of the foundations of this ancient system of medicine is forward motion. The

wheel of life is all about smooth flow and momentum. Change and transition are

regarded as natural, and happen with ease when a person is in balance.

Acupuncture treatment can bring a sense of inner stability and calm, allowing for

more clarity and ease to make decisions, and to absorb change.

In my clinic, I have treated young people who are finding that these transitions from

school or university are sticky. Many are struggling with anxiety, restlessness,

difficulty sleeping, changes in appetite and weight, and feelings of confusion or

frustration.

A five-element acupuncture treatment offers a calm and peaceful space to relax, to

share and talk through the complexities of life, and the needles themselves provide a

directed, individual and safe intervention allowing the natural processes of self-

healing and restoration of balance to begin.

This is what a 20 year old patient said after a course of six treatments:

“I found the space comfortable, your treatment professional yet personable. I felt

extremely supported, held and safe! Thank you xx”.

Do get in touch if you or a young person (over 18) you know would benefit from a

course of treatment during August, September and October. Follow-up treatments

can consolidate progress during the Christmas break.
