How to make the most of a hybrid working week

Will a hybrid working week become your new normal? Alternating home and office working has great potential to maximise movement, here are my top tips for making the most of your hybrid week:

At home:

1.     Create 3 work-stations to cycle between:

a.     Standing – place your laptop on a window ledge, raised desk or ironing board, and use a foot stool to alternate resting your foot on to alleviate any back ache

b.     Sitting – use a supportive chair, kneeling stool or exercise ball

c.     On the floor – place your laptop on a coffee table, lay out a soft mat and cushions and support yourself in a variety of positions, such as a wide leg sit, cross-legged or kneeling

2.     Dress for movement – you are less likely to sit on the floor if you are wearing tight clothes. Go for loose dresses, leggings or smart stretchy clothes if you are having zoom meetings

3.     Fill your workspace with natural light and plants

4.     Give yourself lots of walking movement breaks

In the Office:

1.     Embrace the commute:

a.     Quiet time – turn the phone off, listen to music, breathe, focus on the world going by or read or listen to a book

b.     Movement time – park a little further from your destination and walk, or stand on trains or tubes

2.     Take the stairs where possible

3.     Drink lots of water – for hydration and more movement with pee breaks

4.     Stand or wander and use wire-free headphones when on the phone to maximise movement
