Our Therapies & Services

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a primary health care system, complementary to other medical practices. It is suitable for almost anyone and can contribute to the treatment and management of a wide range of conditions. Osteopaths primarily work through the neuro-musculo-skeletal system, mostly on muscles and joints, using holistic and patient-centred approaches.

A core principle behind osteopathy is the idea that the body is an integrated whole, and contains self-healing mechanisms that can be supported as part of the treatment. No part of the body works, or can be considered, in isolation. Relevant psychological and social factors also form part of the process of patient diagnosis.

The key tools for osteopathic diagnosis include listening to the patient's history, examining muscles and joints and observing movements. X -rays, scans and other clinical investigations are also used if required. A wide range of gentle, non-invasive manual techniques such as deep tissue massage, joint articulation and manipulation are applied therapeutically.

Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that encourages the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body, including the head. It is a gentle yet extremely effective approach and may be used in a wide range of conditions for people of all ages, from birth to old age. Specific care for babies and children is a speciality of the practice.

Osteopaths may have different specialities including sports injuries, paediatrics, and visceral osteopathy (treating the internal organs of the body). Cranial osteopathy embraces all of these. Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel a very subtle, rhythmical shape change that is present in all body tissues. This is called Involuntary Motion or the Cranial Rhythm. The movement is of very small amplitude, therefore it takes practitioners with a very finely developed sense of touch to feel it. This rhythm was first described in the early 1900's and its existence was confirmed in a series of laboratory tests in the 1960's and '70's.

Tension in the body disrupts the cranial rhythm. Practitioners compare what your rhythm is doing to what they consider ideal. This shows them what stresses and strains your body is under at present, and what tensions it may be carrying as a result of its past history. It also gives them an insight into the overall condition of your body, for example if it is healthy, or stressed and tired.

Sports Osteopathy and Kinesio Taping

Sports Osteopathy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability.

The Sports Osteopathy is provided by our Osteopaths, who can help improve performance as well as treat injuries. By using their knowledge of diagnosis and highly developed palpatory skills they can help restore structural balance, improve joint mobility and reduce adhesions and soft tissue restrictions so that ease of movement is restored and performance enhanced.

The Osteopaths use Kinesio Taping or KT techniques to assist healing, reduce swelling and support joints. By still allowing some movement in the affected tissues, kinesiotaping has the ability to aid the lymphatic and muscle systems, substantially reducing recovery times whilst improving range of motion and muscle activity.

Kinesiology taping is a natural extension to the core osteopathic and sports therapy treatment that we offer. It’s particularly useful after the hands-on treatment has finished and offers a longer-term effect that can be felt, and seen, long after the session is over.

Massage

We offer Therapeutic Massage, Sports Massage and Relaxation Massage.

Massage has a beneficial physical and psychological affect on the body. It helps maintain the body in better condition, restores loss of tone to injured muscle tissue and prevents injury.

Massage can help pain reduction, it encourages circulation, drainage and relaxation, and thereby helps relieve anxiety while promoting a sense of well-being.

The techniques used are variable, and can be gentle or firm, deep or superficial, and can include aromatherapy oils.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that assists the body to heal itself. The remedies used are safe and are not chemical drugs. Homeopathy takes into consideration the wider holistic aspects of the patient’s life and situation, as well as their presenting symptoms.

The detailed homeopathic consultation and assessment allows the homeopath to consider all these aspects and select remedies to match the constitution of the individual person as well as their symptoms. Remedies are believed to stimulate the body’s own natural healing ability and general energy. Homeopathy can be used to complement conventional medical treatment, or can be used as an alternative choice of treatment.

Although a scientific mechanism for the action of homeopathic remedies cannot yet be explained, research has shown a clinical effect and many satisfied patients confirm the benefit they have experienced from this type of medicine.

Naturopathy

At a time when modern technology, environmental pollution, poor diet, and stress play a significant role in health, a Naturopath's ability to apply natural methods of healing is now of considerable importance. Naturopathy uses therapies to support and stimulate a healing power from within the body, "in the gentlest, least invasive, most efficient manner possible". A Naturopath is a health practitioner who applies natural therapies which may include diet changes, food supplements, herbal remedies, exercise, lifestyle changes as well as fasting and detoxification.

Iridology is one of the key in house functional diagnostic tests. The iris of the eye is comprised of many thousands of individual fibres, amongst which are located nerve endings linked directly to the brain. In iridology, every part of the body that is supplied with nerves has its corresponding reflex area on the iris of the eye, allowing us to assess the organs and tissues in that sector. Iris signs can be interpreted by the trained iridologist revealing information about the body’s genetic strengths and weaknesses, levels of inflammation and toxaemia, the efficiency of the eliminative systems and organs.

Pilates

Pilates is an exercise method, designed to lengthening, strengthen and restore the body to balance. Based upon an anatomical understanding of the body's muscular and skeletal systems, the Pilates teacher creates a comprehensive exercise programme for the client. Classes will focus on specific areas individually whilst using exercises that integrate the whole body to re-educate and restore it to optimum muscular and skeletal function.
