Stay positive in the fourth trimester by eating well

Stay positive in the fourth trimester by eating well

One of the most wonderful times in your life is when you become a new mother. And the fourth trimester is a time when you should be enjoying your cosy bundle of joy. But very often the experience is much darker because acting like a 24-hour life support machine can easily make your mood plummet. So the start to motherhood is often a huge struggle.

Are poor sleep & diet linked to kids mental health issues?

With mental health problems in British children rocketing, many people think that the wrong nutrition and poor sleep are contributing to the problem.

Emma's Kenya Update 2015

Just a week back from my humanitarian trip to Kenya, and I’m now finding time to reflect. It was a hugely challenging experience, but such a successful trip, with over 2000 patients receiving our help!

I finally have some wifi so can send an update! All is well, we have spent 2 days in Makindu at the hospital and at an orphanage seeing such a variety of cases. The 2 standout cases was of one 27 year old women who 'broke' my blood pressure monitor as her BP was off the scale! She had no idea how serious the condition was as we sent her straight to the hospital in an ambulance! The other case was of a 10month baby, severely disabled and likely severe genetic abnormality. He was the size of a 3 month old, dehydrated, floppy, and unresponsive. The mother had no idea and thought we could treat him or at least the hospital could. It was one of the hardest conversations I've had with a patient, telling the mother there was no hope of recovery.
Today we are now in Kimana, it's hot and we are in sight of Kilimanjaro! Looking forward to seeing the girls at the rescue centre!!

Back Pain and Children

Back Pain and Children

Back Pain and Children
BackCare Awareness Week is in October, and this year it focuses on back pain experienced by children. Like adults, children can suffer from back pain as a result of a variety of lifestyle activities. And like adults, there are a number of things that parents and carers can do to prevent issues arising.
If your child does complain of back pain, it is important to seek advice from a qualified professional, such as an Osteopath. An Osteopath will help to establish the cause of the problem and will provide advice on treatment, or refer you for further examinations if required.Back Pain and Children

Osteopathy in Kenya

Osteopathy in Kenya

Just back from my third humanitarian trip to Kenya, I am now putting my thoughts and experiences into words!

This trip felt quite adventurous and experimental, with missions into unknown territories, extensive travel and unplanned accommodation! And not least, that I was taking my 12 year old son, George, with me for the first time! The youngest volunteer the charity has ever had!
